Dr. Abu Umar Faruq Ahmad

Dr. Faruq has been the Chair and the member of Shari`ah Advisory Board in ICFAL from its inception. Currently he is an Assistant Professor of Islamic Banking & Finance at Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University, Dubai. He received his first Degree (Mumtazul Muhaddithin) from Bangladesh and Lissans in Shari`ah from Islamic University of Madinah. Later he obtained Master of Laws (Honours) in Islamic Banking and PhD in Islamic Finance respectively from the University of Western Sydney, Australia. Dr. Faruq has published 3 books - Theory and Practice of Modern Islamic Finance: The Case Analysis From Australia, (BrownWalker Press, USA, ISBN:1599425173), Developments in Islamic Banking Practice: The Experience of Bangladesh, (Universal Publishers, USA, ISBN:1599428288) and Principles and practices of Islamic microfinance for a global economy: the case of Bangladesh, (LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing GmbH & Co. Germany ISBN 9783844326208); 2 book chapters and over 20 research articles in different international refereed journals. He serves as the founding editor of International Journal of Excellence in Islamic Banking and Finance, and sits in the international editorial advisory boards of 5 top class world journals. He has also spoken at 20 international conferences held in Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Australia.


Dr Shabbir Ahmed

Dr. Shabbir Ahmed currently works with the Islamic Association Western Suburbs Sydney as a religious teacher and Imam providing Islamic services to all Muslim communities.
He received his first Master of Arts Degree in 1985 in the area of Shahadat ul Aalamiyah from the Board of Islamic Education, Multan, Pakistan. He than received Master Degrees, from the University of Sind, Pakistan, in 1986, in the area of Arabic/Islamic Studies and than he received M.Phil Degrees in 1988, in the Islamic Culture from the University of Sind.
In 1991, he received his first PhD in Islamic Studies from the Jaamiat ul Uloom il Islamiyah, Karachi, Pakistan, followed by a PhD in Islamic Culture from the University of Sind, Pakistan.  

Apart from being on the Shari`ah Advisory Board of ICFAL, Dr Shabbir's other memberships include but not limited to:

    Member of AHEC (Australian Health Ethics Committee);
    Member of NHMRC (National Health & Medical Research Council);
    External examiner in Islamic and Arabic studies at Karachi University, Pakistan and Sind University of Pakistan.
    Coordinator of Ru’yat-e- Hilaal (Moon-sighting) Committee of Australia.
    Islamic adviser of Australian Islamic College of Sydney, Australia.  
    Member of Australian National Imam council (ANIC).
